Note! Students need to be a registered user to access Words2Learn. For more information, please visit mlearning.worlded.org.
This app helps accelerate learning of academic and career-related vocabulary for adults preparing to enter postsecondary education and technical training. A unique feature of this app is that it permits the download of modules so users can work offline, and the results of student work will be sent to the web-based management system when a connection is reestablished.
Students are given 5 words in each session and are provided multiple exposures to each word in different formats to optimize learning. Whether students work in groups or individually, in or out of the class, the core strategies include:
- Introducing learners to academic or career-related words (listening to the pronunciation, reading the definition, and seeing each word used in various sentences);
- Engaging students in higher level thinking activities (students will have the ability to type their reflection/opinion of how they would respond to a given scenario); and
- Checking students’ knowledge through practice questions.
Using a blended learning approach, this app assumes that students will participate in both classroom and virtual learning. Through self study, students are then better prepared to deepen their understanding of the selected words through classroom activities.
The Words2Learn project is lead and managed by World Education with initial funding by Nellie Mae Education Foundation.
